Trading Up (week 6)

It’s been a long time since I’ve been out shopping.  Over summer there were moving expenses to plan for, and since then my job situation has been such that we’ve been keeping a close eye on spending money (while we pay off the remainder of those nasty moving expenses and try to stomp out our student debt).  But lately I’ve been hearing the phrase “dress for the job you want and not the job you have” echoing in my head.  So, even though I don’t yet have a shiny professional big-kid job I figured we could spare a couple bucks to get some comfier (and prettier too) work clothes.

A part of our yearly goal to decrease our excess stuff is a loose rule that when we purchase something new, we toss something (just to maintain a bit of balance.)  So, this week I’m getting rid of an itchy pair of cheap WalMart pants, a worn out black shirt and a sweater I haven’t worn in too long, to make valuable closet space for 2 new work outfits.  (Is it cheating that I managed 2 new outfits and am only tossing 1?)  Regardless, Paddy is joining the closet-cleaning theme of the week and tossing a shirt that is several sizes too large.  He didn’t want to model his, but extra points to him for playing photog for me.  And personally, I think I should maybe get some bonus points for finding almost all my ‘new’ clothes at a thrift shop, making this extravagance a little easier on our pocketbook.
