Now that I have myself a full time job (still working shifts, sadly) it’s been getting a bit tricky for Paddy and I to actually spend time together. So, when my schedule was actually open this past Sunday, it was an opportunity not to be missed. Being Remembrance Day, of course our day started out at the cenotaph for the memorial. It’s been several years since I’ve been able to attend a service – due to those delightful shift-work schedules – so I was very glad to finally make it out to one again. You won’t notice many photos from the actual service here, as I was much too busy being emotional.
Once the tears were done though, it was decided that the day was entirely too lovely to waste inside. After a tasty breakfast, we wandered past the gorgeous (and slightly creepy) Christmas windows at the Bay and grabbed a trolley out to Scarborough to see if we could find Ashbridges Bay. Paddy has been keen to show me all of the beaches that Toronto has to offer, possibly in an attempt to force me to fall in love with our new home, and I have to say … it’s not the worst idea in the world. (It’s like he knows me or something!) Visiting a beach in the fall is a new experience – certainly not used to seeing fallen leaves mixed in with the sand, but the weather was nice enough that I could wander without a jacket, so I was a happy kid. People were flying kites, kids were tossing rocks and being adorable … and I got to watch the waves and chase seagulls. It was awesome.
Our wander back to the trolley stop took us through a lovely quiet residential neighbourhood (we may have been dreamily house-hunting just a little bit), past a well-loved cenotaph … and a library with an amazing owl statue!!
I also realized how long it’s been since I’ve taken my camera out just for fun, and boy have I missed it!
After our exploring was concluded we headed home and finished our day with BBQ’d burgers, a glass of cabernet … and Lego Pirates of the Caribbean on the PS3. Pretty fregging perfect, actually. Here’s to hoping we can have more of these adventures real soon!
